Help offered

support for local community led activity relating to walking, cycling, wheeling* and making places more attractive spaces which encourage more people to be physically active. We can provide advice on, and help support all of the following types of enquiries/activities. • Any projects relating to walking, cycling, wheeling and generally encouraging people in communities to be more active for short journeys (commonly known as ‘Active Travel’) - what this means, what is out there, and the ‘landscape’ in Scotland. • Encouraging people to walk, cycle or wheel to/from a venue/building - Measures organisations can take to make people aware of the options available and encourage less car use. • Setting up bike libraries, buddy systems and similar schemes. • Setting up walking/cycling groups, or programmes of led walks/rides, and incorporating these into other interests/activities e.g. history walks, foraging, making places more attractive to be. • Sourcing funding available specifically for walking, cycling, wheeling and related projects. • Holding events to understand travel behaviours of geographic communities, or communities of interest. • Case Studies on community led projects that have happened, or are happening in Scotland, and elsewhere. • Projects to make walking, cycling, wheeling and generally being more active, more accessible to a wide variety of people (e.g. older people, young people, those who are differently abled, ethnic/cultural minorities, homeless people, asylum and refugees etc.) • Projects to improve and maintain public spaces, paths and cycle ways to encourage more people to use them. • Depending on capacity we may be able to provide advice on funding applications that contain an element of this in some form – this can be internal to the organisation, or external for community benefit. • Campaigning and lobbying for local changes desired by communities that will support more people to walk, cycle or wheel regularly. • Other enquiries that you feel are related or connected to any of the above, and that are led by community groups and organisations. *Wheeling - the act of a person who moves, travels, conveys, etc., on or as on wheels, e.g. wheelchair/skates/walking with a buggy
